JOB TITLE: Kitchen Manager
EMPLOYER: Martin Luther King Community Center DEPARTMENT: Hunger, Education, Community Programs
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
EFFECTIVE DATE: 07/23/2024
SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for ensuring the kitchen runs smoothly and complies with safety
regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manages kitchen staff, volunteers and coordinate food orders.
• Coordinates food prep and cooking.
• Checks food plating and temperature.
• Establishes portion sizes.
• Orders food supplies and kitchen equipment, as needed.
• Trains kitchen staff and volunteers on prep work and food plating techniques.
• Stores food products in compliance with safety practices (e.g. in refrigerators).
• Maintains sanitation and safety standards in the kitchen area.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supervises kitchen volunteers
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience
and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Certificates, licenses and registrations required:
o A culinary degree or relevant certification is preferred.
• Computer skills required:
o Spreadsheet Software (Excel);
o Order Processing Systems;
o Word Processing Software (Word);
o Electronic Mail Software (Outlook);
• Other skills required:
o Supervisory experience a plus.
o Excellent communication skills and organizational abilities.
o Ability to manage a team in a fast-paced work environment.
o Enthusiasm for non-profit work.
o Regular and satisfactory attendance and punctuality are required.
o Ability to use computer programs, including email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google, etc., and
food industry applications i.e. FoodDocs.
o Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
o Independent thinker who believes deeply in the mission of the MLK.
o Ability to work with a diverse population.
o Have courteous and intuitive interactions with clients.
