Job DescriptionMedical Temporaries, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced ***Registered Nurse***.

  • Minimum of 1+ years of experience in a substance abuse (Methadone treatment) setting required.

This is a long-term TEMPORARY position (estimated 6 months) requiring availability between the hours of 5:30AM-2:30PM, Monday through Friday & 1 Saturday per month (6am-9am), located in Portsmouth, VA (23704).
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RN JOB

Under general supervision, this position coordinates the provision of medical services in the substance abuse outpatient clinic. Responsible for the dispensing of methadone and daily documentation of services rendered, assist the physician when performing physicals; Reports to the Substance Abuse and Prevention Program Administrator.

ESSENTIAL RN JOB FUNCTIONS

Coordinates with aftercare pharmacy to order medications, enters medication information into the computer and receives, stores, and delivers and or returns psychotropic medications in a timely manner; communicates with pharmacies, consumers, providers, and others regarding requests for medication information and refills; and receives and handles instructions from physician, and ensures documents and documentation related to medical services are filed in consumer record.

Performs psychotropic medication injections as ordered by physician; track individual’s dosage and consult with physician regarding presenting problems; responds to physician request for medication samples to include Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS) testing for tardive dyskinesia; and maintains records of laboratory tests ordered and results received and notifies physician of abnormal results.

Screens consumers to qualify for pharmacy assistance programs, performs and records consumers’ vital signs and weight under order of physician; and obtains signed release of information and requests records from outside healthcare providers for consumer medical information.

Administers injections, checks vital signs and weight, screens for medication side effects, interacts with pharmacies and other agencies, and provides consumer with educational activities and information; and observes and assesses client behaviors and conditions and provides needed medical services or refers to the appropriate health care agency.

Document records, logging records in and out, and maintaining storage for psychotropic medications ordered by the physician in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and professional standards, monitors and orders various medical supplies including prescription pads, needles and syringes; maintains first aid supplies; and maintains accounting system for supplies as required.

Maintains medication storage area with regard to security, cleanliness, organization, and stock; ensures that all job activities comply with licensure requirements as well as those of other applicable regulatory bodies, documentation and monitoring guidelines; keeps abreast of changes in the medication ordering system requirements; and communicates to consumers as indicated, and gathers, maintains and updates consumer educational supplies.

Coordinate and facilitate Methadone Education Classes.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements for the Registered Nurse:

  • Required: 1+ years as a Registered Nurse (Substance Abuse setting)
  • Required: Valid Virginia RN License or valid multi-state RN licensure
  • Required: Substance abuse / Methadone treatment experience
  • Required: BLS
  • Required: Ability to pass Background Check and Drug Screen
  • Required: Must be reliable and a quick learner and have ability to multi-task with accuracy in a very busy environment
  • Required: Excellent written and verbal communication skills
