Job Summary: The Criminal Order Review Specialist is responsible for reviewing criminal background checks and related orders to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely processing. In a background screening company, this role involves analyzing criminal records, court orders, arrest warrants, and other legal documents to verify information and ensure candidates meet the required standards for employment or other purposes. The Specialist will assist in processing consumer background reports, communicating with clients and legal entities, and ensuring that all data is handled in accordance with applicable privacy laws.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and verify criminal records, court orders, arrest warrants, and related documents as part of background screening reports.
- Ensure that criminal records are accurate and comply with relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
- Analyze legal documents and criminal orders (such as arrest records, convictions, warrants, etc.) to identify discrepancies or inconsistencies.
- Collaborate with courts, law enforcement, and other relevant entities to obtain necessary criminal documentation and resolve any discrepancies in criminal records.
- Ensure all criminal background information is entered into the company’s screening system accurately and in a timely manner.
- Communicate with clients to clarify criminal background information and ensure they have accurate data for their hiring decisions.
- Monitor changes in criminal law and background screening regulations to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Process criminal orders and documentation as part of the background check process, maintaining confidentiality and privacy.
- Escalate any complex or unresolved issues to senior staff or legal teams for further analysis and resolution.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all background check processes, including notes on discrepancies, corrections, and actions taken.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, legal studies, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in background screening, criminal justice, or related fields.
- Strong understanding of criminal law, background screening regulations, and legal terminology.
- Experience working with criminal records, court documents, and legal orders.
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with clients, law enforcement, and legal entities.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with background screening software and databases is preferred.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Knowledge of relevant compliance standards, such as FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act), is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position, with typical office hours.
- Occasional overtime may be required depending on workload.
