Position Overview
The RN – Wound Care is responsible for providing specialized nursing care focused on wound, ostomy, and continence management. This role supports patients with complex wounds through assessment, treatment, education, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, while also contributing to quality improvement initiatives and staff education.
Key Responsibilities

Provide expert wound, ostomy, continence, fistula, and complex wound care services

Assess, treat, and document patient responses to wound care interventions
-
Conduct comprehensive skin and pressure injury risk assessments and implement prevention strategies
-
Develop, revise, and evaluate wound care standards and best practices
-
Assist in the selection and evaluation of wound care supplies, equipment, and technology
-
Evaluate the quality and delivery of wound care provided by clinical staff
-
Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care
-
Educate patients and families on wound care, ostomy management, continence care, and prevention strategies
-
Provide staff education, including new employee orientation and in-service training
-
Participate in unit-based and organization-wide quality improvement initiatives, including prevalence and incidence studies
-
Communicate and escalate clinical challenges, ethical concerns, and conflict resolution issues as appropriate
-
Support culturally competent care and education tailored to diverse patient populations
-
Maintain confidentiality, data security, and compliance with patient rights and regulatory standards
-
Track and manage wound care-related equipment, including specialty beds and negative pressure wound therapy devices
-
Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain clinical competency
-
Identify community resources and assist patients in accessing post-discharge support services
Required Experience & Education
-
Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN or ADN) from an accredited nursing program
-
Minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience with a strong focus on wound and ostomy care
Required Licensure & Certifications
-
Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License
-
BLS (AHA) certification
-
One or more of the following wound care certifications:
-
Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (CWOCN) – WOCNCB
-
Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON) – WOCNCB
-
Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN) – WOCNCB
-
Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) – ABWM
-
Wound Care Certified (WCC) – NAWCO
