Job Summary:

The Shipping and Receiving Clerk is responsible for managing incoming and outgoing shipments with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency. This role involves preparing shipments, verifying documentation, maintaining inventory of materials, and ensuring proper handling of goods. the position requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and familiarity with shipping procedures and documentation.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Keep accurate records of incoming and outgoing shipments
  • Prepare and package items for shipment using proper fillers, spacers, and protective materials
  • Determine the appropriate method of shipment based on knowledge of procedures, rates and routes
  • Label packages and stencils with correct shipping information using equipment as needed
  • Assemble and prepare containers (cardboard, wooden, or preassembled)
  • Secure contents and seal containers using nails, strapping machines, and metal tape
  • Apply shipping instructions and identifying information via stencils, stamps, or adhesives
  • Calculate and post shipping charges and weights; affix postage
  • Receive and inspect incoming shipments, documenting shortages or damages; coordinate with vendors to replace or correct
  • Distribute incoming goods to appropriate departments
  • Verify outgoing shipments for accuracy and conformance with specifications
  • Maintain an inventory of packaging and shipping materials
  • Perform either shipping or receiving duties, depending on assignment


Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to interpret packing slips and purchase orders
  • Computer literate; able to navigate shipping systems and databases
  • Experience with bills of lading and common freight carrier forms
  • Basic math skills, including weight estimation and shipping cost calculation
  • Experience with shipping/ receiving software or databases preferred
  • Forklift operator experience preferred but not required


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move shipments and materials weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Fine motor skills for typing, labeling, and handling small parts
  • Ability to talk, listen, and communicate clearly by phone for extended periods
  • Physical ability to bend, twist, stand, balance, and open storage or filling cabinets
  • Frequent walking and standing (up to 8 hours per shift) required
  • Vision requirements include both close and distance vision


Mid Shift: 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, but must be flexible to start earlier or later as business needed. Monday to Friday.
