Job Summary
Southwest Surgical Center is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Technologist to join our Outpatient Surgical Center. Responsibilities
- Provides assistance as necessary to surgeons and residents by selecting, organizing, anticipating and passing surgical instruments, medical supplies, equipment, and provides retraction under the direction of the surgeon.
- Performs all phases of reprocessing including decontamination, tray assembly, sterilization, documentation, and problem resolution for parameter failure.
- Participates in inventory maintenance – receiving, stocking, “picking” supplies/instruments for cases, equipment cleaning.
- Maintains highest standard of aseptic technique during all operative procedures, including surgical attire, surgical hand scrub, surgical gowning of self and team, surgical gloving of self and team, boundary between sterile and non-sterile areas, and traffic patterns.
- Participates in quality monitoring and process improvement activities.
- Applies infection control practices during the performance of all position description responsibilities. Practices include, but are not limited to, hand hygiene, care of the environment, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and respiratory hygiene/cough etiquette.
- Identifies breaches in aseptic technique and implements interventions for resolution.
- Provides patient care under the direction of a registered nurse.
- Identifies opportunities for cost savings and efficiency in the clinical areas of the ASC.
- Cross trains to the inventory coordinator role if deemed necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills
- Completion of a formal Surgical Technologist training program
- Proven experience with OR procedures and sterile technique in an outpatient surgical center environment.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, infection control, and aseptic practices.
- Basic life support certification required.
- Excellent patient care skills with a compassionate approach to supporting patients pre-and post-operation.
- Knowledge of ambulatory surgery center operations is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work effectively under pressure in fast-paced settings.
- Minimum 1-year of prior outpatient surgical technologist experience preferred.
