Trainee Histotech (Lab Technician) | Full-Time / On-Site in Urbana, IL | Starting at $25/hour (based on experience)
Are you passionate about science and eager to build a meaningful career in healthcare At VitalSkin Dermatology, we are looking for a motivated individual to join the team at our main lab in Urbana as a Trainee Histotech (Lab Technician). This is a unique opportunity to learn and grow in a supportive, hands-on environment alongside experienced professionals in the field of dermatopathology.
As a Trainee, you will gain valuable experience in tissue processing, staining techniques, and lab operations — all while working toward certification as a Histotechnician (HT/HTL) within approximately one year. We’re committed to your growth and long-term success.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in tissue specimen preparation (grossing, embedding, microtomy)
- Learn and perform IHC and special stains under supervision
- Maintain accurate lab records and follow safety protocols
- Support lab operations and equipment maintenance
- Collaborate with dermatopathologists and lab team members
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field (Biology, Chemistry, etc.)
- Strong interest in histology, pathology, or lab sciences
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality
- Team player with a positive attitude
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform lab setup tasks
Preferred (but not required)
- Prior lab or healthcare experience
- Familiarity with lab equipment or EHR/LIS systems
