About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Educational Sign Language Interpreter to support students with hearing impairments in a school setting. This role plays a critical part in ensuring equal access to education by facilitating communication between students, teachers, and peers in a mainstream classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide real-time sign language interpretation for students in classroom settings
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers
- Support students in understanding instructional content and classroom discussions
- Assist with note-taking and tutoring when interpretation is not required
- Participate in meetings as part of the educational support team
- Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must meet California Department of Education Educational Interpreting Standards, including one of the following:
- RID Certification (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) or equivalent
Minimum score of 4.0 or higher on one of the following assessments:
- EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment)
- ESSE-I/R (Educational Sign Skills Evaluation – Interpreter/Receptive)
- NAD/ACCI Assessment
