Job Summary:
We’re seeking a curious, detail-oriented, and analytically minded Sales Analyst to join our Sales Operations team at SBM Life Science in our Cary, NC office. This role will be critical in transforming raw sales and retail data into actionable insights to drive strategic decisions across our retail and distributor channels. The analyst will support forecasting, promotional tracking, and performance evaluation—ultimately helping SBM grow smarter and more efficiently.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in a business or sales analyst role, preferably in CPG, retail, or distribution.
- Previous experience with big-box retailers (e.g., Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walmart) or lawn & garden categories.
- Understanding of distributor sales models and challenges.
- Familiarity with CRM or promotional tracking tools.
Required Skillset:
- Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas); experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.
- Familiarity with POS and syndicated data platforms (e.g., Krunchbox, Scintilla, Nielsen, IRI, etc.).
- Strong analytical skills with a desire to dig into data and uncover insights.
- Excellent communication skills—able to turn complex data into clear, actionable insights.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze POS, shipment, and inventory data across key accounts (e.g., Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, Ace, Distributors).
- Identify sales trends, risks, and opportunities across regions, categories, and timeframes.
- Develop dashboards, scorecards, and ad-hoc reports to support Sales Directors and Account Managers.
- Forecasting Support
- Maintain and evolve the monthly sales forecast file, consolidating budget, actuals, projections, and order cuts.
- Collaborate with Sales, Finance, and Supply Chain teams during monthly Sales Calls to align on projections.
- Promotions & Trade Activity Tracking
- Track trade promotions, validate execution in retail environments, and assess ROI where possible.
- Support a new tracking system for Territory Managers and promotional activities in the field.
- Tool & Data Stewardship
- Leverage tools for POS and syndicated data platforms, and Excel/Power BI to manage data inputs and outputs.
- Help shape and maintain internal data repositories for retail and distributor performance.
- Cross-functional Collaboration
- Partner with Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Finance to improve decision-making with data.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts to streamline sales reporting and analytics processes.
