Bachelor’s degree in Education, valid state Teaching license or certification, and 1+ years Teaching experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead chess instruction for K-12 students in an educational setting. The role involves coaching and teaching chess competitively, helping to develop students' strategic thinking and problem-solving skills through engaging after-school sessions.
Location:The position primarily operates within Naval Anacost Annex, Washington, DC, with possible commuting to multiple campuses across DC, Maryland, and Virginiaapproximately 10 locationsto deliver consistent chess instruction.
Responsibilities:
- Coach and teach chess to students from kindergarten through 12th grade.
- Plan and execute chess lessons that engage students and promote skill development.
- Conduct after-school sessions for 5-10 hours per week, typically scheduled between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
- Manage varying campus locations, requiring flexibility in commute and schedule.
- Foster a positive learning environment and encourage sportsmanship and critical thinking.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in competitive chess playing or coaching.
- Experience working with K-12 students.
- Ability to commute reliably to locations across DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Passion for teaching and mentoring youth in strategic game play.
