Job Title: Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
Location: Tacoma, Washington
Position Type: Full-Time (37.5 hours/week)
Schedule: MondayFriday, 7.5 hours/day
Employment Dates: August 27, 2025 June 11, 2026
Caseload: K12 students (approximately 1520 students)
Work Setting: Itinerant (travel between multiple school sites within Tacoma Public Schools required)
Position Overview:
Tacoma Public Schools is seeking a qualified and dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) for the 20252026 school year. This full-time, itinerant position provides direct and consultative services to K12 students with visual impairments across multiple school sites in the district. The ideal candidate will hold a valid Washington State TVI certification and be passionate about supporting accessible, inclusive education for all students.
Key Responsibilities:

Deliver specialized instruction to students who are blind or visually impaired

Conduct functional vision assessments and learning media assessments

Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams

Work with general and special education staff, related service providers, and families to ensure student success

Provide recommendations and support for accommodations, assistive technology, and accessible materials

Travel to multiple schools across the Tacoma area

Maintain accurate documentation of services and student progress
Qualifications:

Valid Washington State TVI certification (or eligibility to obtain by the start date)

Preferred: Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired

Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills

Ability to travel independently between school sites
