1.0 General Purpose of the Position

The primary objective of the Operations Manager position is to oversee and manage the operational activities of the company.

2.0 Major Work Functions and Desired Outcomes

  • Enhance business processes across departments through analysis and collaboration.

  • Participate in long-term strategic planning at the managerial and executive levels.

  • Work closely with department leaders to develop and refine financial plans.

  • Analyze the performance of support functions such as human resources and provide recommendations for improvement.

  • Collaborate with project managers to establish budgets for special initiatives or programs.

  • Serve as the authorized individual for approving major corporate expenses.

3.0 Essential Functions:

  1. Manage production and shop personnel. The Operations Manager must be available to guide staff and provide direction as needed.

  2. Oversee shop production. Responsible for all parts produced, the Operations Manager must possess deep knowledge of machinery and manufacturing processes.

  3. Ensure employee safety. A top priority, the Operations Manager must actively monitor and enhance workplace safety practices.

  4. Assist in hiring qualified shop personnel. Active participation in recruitment ensures team cohesion and operational continuity.

  5. Analyze operational efficiency. Must identify and resolve inefficiencies to maintain optimal performance.

  6. Support shop budgeting. Uses knowledge of operational needs to contribute to budget planning and equipment procurement.

  7. Ensure compliance with the company’s quality policy. Enforces adherence to established quality standards.

  8. Oversee employee training. Ensures staff are well-trained to support efficient and high-quality operations.

4.0 Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in operations management.

  • Comprehensive understanding of the roles and responsibilities of shop and key operational staff.

  • Proven ability to lead personnel to meet or exceed company quality and delivery goals.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with both shop and office personnel.

  • Occasional interaction with customers, requiring professional communication and customer service skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a willingness to make and support informed decisions.

5.0 Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Primarily based in the shop environment.

  • Occasionally operates shop equipment.

  • May need to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be certified or capable of passing a forklift operator test.

  • Able to train others in safe forklift operation.
