We are seeking an experienced CPA or EA who shares our vision for delivering elevated client experiences through strategic planning and preparation. The ideal candidate one who can quickly build relationships with clients, adopt operational and technology, as well as offer deep technical guidance across complex tax matters for individuals, businesses, and trusts.

About Us

Potentia is a team of financial professionals dedicated to providing comprehensive financial planning, investment management, and tax services. Our tax team works closely with our wealth management professionals and independently to deliver expert-level strategies that support the full financial picture for our clients.

Potentia Tax currently serves approximately 500 households with varying levels of complexity. Some clients work exclusively with our tax team; others are served across tax, wealth management, and trust services. Our elevated service model and deeply collaborative culture set us apart in the industry.

Who We Are Looking For

We serve a sophisticated client base, including:

· High-net-worth families

· Multi-entity business owners

· Private equity participants

· Trusts and fiduciaries

· Clients with international tax considerations

Because of this complexity, we are seeking a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with advanced technical expertise.

The right candidate thrives in a team-based, client-first environment and will have strengths including:

· Personable and professional communicator with a strong ability to build rapport, foster trust, and connect with clients and team members.

· Overseeing complex client engagements

· Mentoring tax professionals

· Collaborating closely with wealth and trust advisors

The ideal candidate:

· Excels in both written and verbal communication, with the ability to simplify complex tax matters.

· Has experience working with Lacerte, Practice CS, and Sure Prep

· Demonstrates deep expertise in high-net-worth, business, and fiduciary tax planning.

· Understands fiduciary taxation and (ideally) estate and gift planning.

· Can navigate sophisticated business structures, including private equity and multi-entity arrangements.

· Has working knowledge of international tax reporting requirements (FBAR, FATCA).

· Is a strong, forward-thinking leader who can design and improve tax processes.

· Manages complex client engagements.

· Shows initiative, ownership, proactiveness, and strong operational judgment.

· Can wear multiple hats—technical, advisory, leadership, and operational.

· Manages multiple priorities and tight deadlines with confidence.

· Is committed to training, knowledge-sharing, and team development.

· Responds to challenges with resilience and a solution-oriented mindset.

Key Responsibilities

· Deliver expert tax guidance and planning for high-net-worth individuals, businesses, and trusts.

· Develop and implement tax processes that enhance efficiency and client experience.

· Lead, mentor, and support a team of tax professionals.

· Oversee preparation and filing of individual, corporate, partnership, and fiduciary tax returns.

· Collaborate with wealth management advisors on integrated strategies.

· Manage complex client engagements and cultivate long-term relationships.

· Stay current on tax law changes, regulations, and industry best practices.

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

· 15+ years of tax experience with extensive expertise in individual, business, nonprofit, and international taxation.

· Skilled at engaging others with authenticity and professionalism, creating strong, lasting relationships.

· Strong understanding of fiduciary tax rules; experience with estate and gift planning is preferred.

· Demonstrated experience serving high-net-worth clients with sophisticated structures.

· Proven record of overseeing complex engagements.

· Strong process development, workflow optimization, and practice-management skills.

· Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex tax issues.

· Ability to identify and implement operational and efficiency improvements.

· Active CPA license in the relevant state (or ability to transfer).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise with tax acquisitions and integrations.
  • Experience in private equity-related tax issues or multi-entity structuring.
  • Familiarity with international reporting requirements (FBAR, FATCA) and cross-border considerations.
  • Exposure to financial planning concepts.
  • Demonstrated experience training and mentoring tax professionals.
  • Background working in a growth-oriented or scaling tax practice.
  • Strategic thinker interested in helping shape the long-term vision of the firm.
