Job Title: Phlebotomist I - Aiken- Immediate Hiring
Job Description
The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations. This position involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures while maintaining excellent customer service.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge them as needed.
- Record maintenance data and decontaminate equipment as necessary.
- Update patient information and ensure all data is current.
- Collect and store specimens, including blood, urine, or fecal samples, according to established procedures.
- Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes clearly and courteously.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
- Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match scripts for 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures.
- Follow procedures specific to protocols for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
- 0-2 years of experience in phlebotomy performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Specimen processing experience.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to handle hard sticks and specimen collection.
- Experience with pediatric to geriatric patients.
Work Environment
This position involves working in a fast-paced environment, performing up to 40 phlebotomy tasks per day alongside two other team members. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 7 am to 5:30 pm. The role includes FMLA coverage and requires adherence to specific laboratory protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Aiken, South Carolina.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.50/hr.
