About the Role
Venbrook Claims Services is seeking an experienced Senior Claims Examiner to handle auto and general liability claims with a focus on litigated files. This position requires a skilled professional who can investigate, evaluate, and resolve complex liability claims while maintaining exceptional customer service and file quality standards. The ideal candidate brings strong claim evaluation skills, litigation experience, and the ability to manage vendor relationships effectively. This remote position, preferably based in Southern California, offers the opportunity to work with diverse clients across multiple jurisdictions. The Senior Claims Examiner will manage a caseload of moderate to high severity claims, develop strategic resolution plans, and deliver outstanding results that meet both client and company objectives. Travel up to 25% may be required for field work and court appearances.
Responsibilities
- Execute client strategies to achieve claims quality, customer service, and operational objectives
- Proactively work claims to ensure file quality meets Venbrook Claims Handling Guidelines, best practices, and client requirements
- Investigate, evaluate, and resolve auto and general liability claims of moderate to high severity
- Manage litigated claims through all phases of litigation including discovery, depositions, mediation, and trial
- Develop strategies for claims resolution with file notes reflecting clarity, focus, control/management, and momentum
- Identify issues, assess liability, evaluate damages, and establish appropriate reserves based on thorough analysis
- Negotiate settlements with claimants, attorneys, and other parties to achieve favorable outcomes within authority limits
- Coordinate with defense counsel on litigation strategy, case evaluation, and settlement recommendations
- Identify and utilize vendors effectively, managing them to achieve satisfactory results on both expense and indemnity costs
- Maintain timely diary of claims and ensure high level of productivity measured by age and complexity of caseload
- Consistently achieve audit scores of 90% and above through adherence to quality standards and best practices
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers through responsive communication and quality work product
- Prepare reports for clients and present claims in roundtable settings or claim reviews as required
- Travel up to 25% for field work, court appearances, depositions, and mediations
- Support team members and contribute to collaborative work environment
Qualifications
- 4+ years handling auto and/or general liability claims for a standard insurance carrier
- 2+ years' experience handling litigated claims with well-developed understanding of the litigation process
- Strong claim evaluation skills with ability to identify issues, formulate action plans, assess liability, and evaluate damages
- Proven negotiation skills with track record of achieving favorable settlement outcomes
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High level of personal responsibility and pride in work product
- Ability to function and support others in a team environment
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and claims software applications
- Ability to read and understand legal documents including complaints, pleadings, and discovery
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment
- Willingness to travel up to 25% for field work and court appearances

- Litigation Management & Legal Knowledge: Well-developed understanding of the litigation process with experience managing litigated claims from inception through resolution. Works effectively with defense counsel, understands legal strategies, and makes informed settlement recommendations. Reads and comprehends legal documents including pleadings, discovery, and motions. Attends depositions, mediations, and court appearances as needed.
