We are looking for an Accountant to join an accounting team at a mid-size manufacturing company located in Southeast Portland. This long-term contract position is well suited for a hands-on accounting specialist who can work independently, think critically, and contribute across core financial operations. The role supports daily accounting activities, month-end close, and reporting needs while partnering with leadership and cross-functional teams to keep financial information accurate and timely.
Responsibilities:
• Assist with daily accounting operations and keep general ledger activity accurate, organized, and aligned with company standards.
• Complete bank and balance sheet reconciliations on a recurring basis to ensure financial records are fully supported.
• Prepare journal entries, analyze account activity, and contribute to a smooth and timely month-end close process.
• Maintain financial records, reporting schedules, and accounts payable documentation with strong attention to detail.
• Coordinate weekly payment processing and support invoice handling in a high-volume accounts payable environment.
• Respond to audit requests by gathering documentation, explaining account activity, and assisting with both internal and external reviews.
• Create ad hoc financial reports and analysis for management to support business decisions and operational planning.
• Partner with the Controller and department leaders to resolve questions, improve workflows, and provide broader administrative support as needed.
• Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience with a bachelor's in accounting or finance
• Background in manufacturing accounting is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with month-end close, general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Ability to perform bank reconciliations and manage detailed financial records with a high degree of accuracy.
• Comfortable working independently in a relaxed environment with limited supervision and strong personal accountability.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify practical and efficient solutions.
• Confidence communicating with department heads and other internal stakeholders to gather information and resolve issues.
• Interest in expanding accounting knowledge and learning processes across the full accounting cycle.
