Schedule: Full-Time | Monday – Friday | 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM / 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM / 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Weekends: Every Third Weekend (Required)
Holidays/On-Call/Floating: Not Required
Job Summary:
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Staff Pharmacist III (Certified Pharmacist) to join our hospital pharmacy team on a per diem basis. This position plays a critical role in medication dispensing, therapy monitoring, and ensuring compliance with all state, federal, and institutional policies. The role also involves chemotherapy review and preparation in a USP 800 environment.
Essential Job Functions:
- Dispense medications in compliance with applicable laws and Medical Center policies.
- Handle controlled substances and investigational drugs according to regulations.
- Review and verify medication orders; resolve any issues with prescribers.
- Monitor patient therapy for allergies, interactions, and potential adverse reactions.
- Prepare IV admixtures, TPN, and chemotherapy using aseptic technique.
- Conduct routine unit inspections for drug storage compliance and inventory control.
- Supervise and direct Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants.
- Follow safe medication practices and complete proper documentation.
- Adjust care delivery based on the patient population’s age, culture, language, and ability.
- Adhere to organizational competencies and safety standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy with at least a BS in Pharmacy.
- Valid New Jersey Pharmacist License.
- Board certification (general or specialty) required (Certified Pharmacist status).
- 1+ years of acute care hospital pharmacy experience.
- Hands-on experience in chemotherapy protocol review and preparation.
- Proficient with aseptic techniques and safe handling practices (USP 800).
- Ability to lift 10 lbs., push/pull 40 lbs., and stand for at least 4 hours daily.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of hospital pharmacy experience (highly preferred).
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Familiarity with unit dose systems and pharmacy information systems.
Work Environment:
- On-site role at the medical center.
- Chemotherapy review and preparation in a controlled, closed-system transfer device setting.
