Job Description

As a CNC Machinist, you will set up, operate, and maintain CNC milling and lathe equipment to produce precision components and parts in a production environment. You will perform minor program modifications when needed, conduct in-process quality checks, and carry out regular and preventative maintenance procedures while working as part of a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

  • Set up CNC machines to produce parts in accordance with production drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T requirements.
  • Operate CNC mill and/or lathe machines safely and efficiently to meet production schedules.
  • Perform minor programming modifications on CNC equipment when required to optimize part production.
  • Conduct in-process inspections throughout production to verify product quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Observe machines during operation to ensure optimal performance and address any irregularities promptly.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues that arise during machine operation, including troubleshooting mechanical and process problems.
  • Complete routine and preventative maintenance tasks to maintain equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Clean and maintain machines, work area, and related equipment before and after each shift.
  • Use mechanical aptitude and machine operation skills to support continuous improvement of machining processes.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow and consistent product quality.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret production drawings and blueprints, including dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T.
  • Proficiency in basic math and confident use of a calculator for machining calculations.
  • Experience operating CNC equipment in a production facility, specifically CNC mill and/or lathe machines.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving issues with machine operation and part quality.
  • Mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with machine operation and changeovers.
  • Knowledge of cutting tools such as drills, end mills, inserts for lathes, and taps.
  • Knowledge of precision measuring tools including calipers, micrometers, height gages, and small hole gages.
  • Technical degree in a relevant specialty or 2–4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to follow work instructions and documentation accurately.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience performing machine setups for production runs in accordance with detailed prints and specifications.
  • Familiarity with conducting in-process quality inspections and documenting results.
  • Understanding of routine and preventative maintenance practices for CNC equipment.
  • Comfort working in a machine shop environment with production schedules and team-based workflows.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of product quality.
  • Strong organizational skills for maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe work area.

Work Environment

You will work in a machine shop environment focused on CNC production. The setting includes CNC mills and lathes, cutting tools, precision measuring instruments, and related shop equipment. The role involves standing for extended periods, working near running machinery, and adhering to standard safety practices and procedures appropriate for a production machining facility.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Louis, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
