Volunteers of America National Services (VOANS) Healthcare is seeking a Regional Operations Director- MN. This person is responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of healthcare operations including quality of services, fiscal management, compliance with federal, state and Volunteers of America National Services requirements and standards for assigned regional area.
Schedule: M-F 8:00 AM-5:00 PM (between sites)
Salary: $135,000-$165,000 (Based on experience)
Travel: Regional Travel Required & Site Visits (Candidate must be local to MN with ability to fulfill on-site expectations)
Essentials:
- Oversee the supervision of each facility/program to ensure that an adequate level of service is provided in a manner which enhances the financial performance of the program and the individual worth and dignity of each resident.
- Ensure that the region is in full compliance with governmental rules and regulations and organization policies.
- Participate in on-going educational programs in the profession to maintain professional status and remain current on trends in the healthcare field.
- Participate with the Regional Vice President of Senior Living in periodic regional reviews.
- Monitor the hiring, training supervisory and termination practices of assigned programs to ensure compliance with organization policies and governmental regulations.
- Oversee and/or develop special project assignments with may be specific or general in scope to benefit the structure and goals of the organization
- Attend and participate in the organization’s regularly scheduled management meetings.
- a. Make recommendations for revision of standard systems.
b. Communicate facility concerns. - Review written reports or minutes of facility/program committee meetings, which include a summary of committee activities and actions, recommendations, plans for implementation and continued assessment and take appropriate action.
- Submit regular and special reports in the prescribed format concerning all matters of major importance.
- Be familiar with and follow operating policies.
- Immediately notify the Regional Vice President of Senior Living of any claim or suspected legal action against the organization, campus or its staff.
- The Regional Operations Director’s responsibilities can be divided into six (6) broad categories: organization; planning; management; financial resources; human resources and leadership.
Organization:
- The Regional Operations Director will recommend and monitor the organizational structure of the assigned programs to ensure effectiveness and responsiveness to those being served. The nature of the structure is dynamic and flexible, responsive to needs of the participants within financial stewardship.
- The Regional Operations Director develops an organizational plan that clearly assigns responsibilities for the program’s services to functional departments and to individuals. The Regional Operations Director develops, recommends and implements a plan for continuity that ensures ongoing stability of the program. Such a plan includes organizational performance standards that are stated in terms of continuous improvement targets, opportunities for internal and external development and a system for evaluating the performance levels of all employees, consultants and other service providers.
Planning:
- Develops and implements business plans for each of the assigned organization’s programs
based on the organization’s strategic plan, the needs of the community, an evaluation of trends,
legislative activity and documentation of demographics, utilization and financial trends. - Maintains relationships with healthcare providers in the assigned region and stays apprised of
federal and state legislative and regulatory activity affecting the organization’s programs. - Develops, recommends and implements a program of continuity and consistency that ensures
ongoing stability and mission fulfillment for each program. Such program will include meeting
performance standards, identifying opportunities for internal and external development and
evaluating the performance levels of the facility/program directors. - Provides support and up-to-date information to relevant others; coordinates work efforts with
staff teams and measures progress against goals.
Management (Operations):
- Assures assigned facilities are prepared for all survey reviews. Reviews each program’s survey reports and ensures the development and implementation of plans of correction.
- Remains knowledgeable of state-of-the-art healthcare practices and services and works as a change agent, within the organizations programs and support to bring all programs to work into conformity with those and to anticipate new practices and services.
- Monitors each program’s financial performance and coaches the Executive Directors/ Residence Directors on the cost-effective management of the program’s resources.
- This responsibility requires a commitment to provide the highest quality services possible in keeping with available resources. Works cooperatively to introduce new resident care technologies and programs that are high quality and an alternative to traditional means of healthcare delivery and financing.
- Completes on-site review of each program to ensure that standards are met and to maintain direct communication with program staff.
- Identifies, supports and advances the development of key healthcare leadership through the progress of a written professional development plan by giving specific and timely feedback, both of positive behaviors and areas needing improvements, and providing effective training or consultation when recommended.
Finance Resource Management:
- The Regional Operations Director is responsible for the cost-effective management of the program’s resources and for implementing the organizational financial policies.
- This responsibility requires a commitment to provide the most economical and highest quality services possible in keeping with available resources.
As a not-for-profit provider, the organization’s long-term financial stability and capacity to address the diverse needs of those its serves is dependent upon the financial support of contributors who embrace its mission. - The Regional Operations Director will be supportive of a program-specific fundraising plan or marketing plan (that is part of the business plan) that projects the values of the total organization into the community and ensures the community’s financial support of the
program.
Human Resources:
- The Regional Operations Director cultivates and promotes a work atmosphere that recognizes the vital importance of human resources to the organization. The work atmosphere should empower employees with the tools and autonomy needed to make key service improvements that are in the best interests of the organization and its customers.
- In collaboration with the Senior Director of Human Resources, Director of Talent Acquisition and the site Human Resources Business Partner, the Regional Operations Director will ensure there is an effective plan for recruitment, hiring, retention and development of effective personnel to attain the objectives and goals of the program.
- The plan will include strategies that effectively build the level of employee morale and esprit de corps necessary to facilitate problem solving, productivity and service excellence.
- The Regional Operations Director involves managers in developing specific action plans for improving service that include goal-setting and skill-building.
Leadership:
- The volatility of the health services environment requires that the Regional Operations Director demonstrates a strong proficiency in the ability to manage and effect change.
- The Regional Operations Director can best achieve and sustain an influential position of shaping the structure and dynamics of the program by developing sharp communication skills, thinking proactively rather than reactively, networking with diversified community and professional representatives,
serving in advisory and board positions and being active in health-related service organizations.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Healthcare Administration or related field.
- Minimum of ten (10) years successful executive management experience.
- Licensed as a Healthcare Administrator with the state in which they are working.
- Multi-state experience and the ability to manage multiple facilities and services.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Understanding of basic computer skills.
- Ability to prioritize and set goals.
- Ability to work flexible hours is required. Ability to travel is required, routinely 50%.
- Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for tasks such as timekeeping, in-servicing and
documentation.
