POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Preschool Teacher, the Preschool Assistant supports the implementation of a high-quality early childhood education program. This role assistant with curriculum delivery, classroom supervision, child engagement, and maintaining a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for all children.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assists in implementing curriculum within the established guidelines.
  2. Helps to design and implement daily lesson/activity plans.
  3. Helps supervise the children, classroom, and all activities.
  4. Helps with systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  5. Assists with parent conferences when directed, maintains communication with parents, and engages parents as volunteers.
  6. Helps to maintain program site and equipment.
  7. Helps to maintain required program records.
  8. Completes and keeps current all staff training necessary.
  9. Always ensures safety of children.
  10. Report unsafe conditions immediately to supervisor or other person of responsibility if your immediate supervisor is not available.
  11. Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
  12. Follow departmental dress code. No alterations to the dress code are allowed.
  13. Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
  14. Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  15. Help with other YMCA functions and duties as assigned by supervisor.
  16. Know appropriate emergency and safety procedures and proper exits for everyone in the facility.
  17. Volunteer at a minimum of one YMCA event per calendar year.
  18. Builds relationships with members and building participants.
  19. Exemplify the YMCA core values of caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty.
  20. Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.
  21. Showing up for all scheduled dates on time and in proper attire

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.
  2. At least 18 years of age. (Please note the youngest age we employ is 16)
  3. Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law (if the state sets requirements.
  4. Desire and ability to work with children.
  5. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  6. Previous experience with diverse populations.
  7. CPR, First Aid, AED and Oxygen certifications within 30 days of hire date.
  8. Complete West Bend training prior to hire and as required going forward.
  9. Complete Listen First training and other YMCA required trainings.
  10. Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  11. Complete annual online and in-person child sexual abuse prevention training.
