Provide exceptional nursing care in a specialized Cardiac Renal Stepdown unit, supporting high-acuity patients with complex cardiac and renal conditions. This contract role offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic clinical environment focused on advanced telemetry and critical care nursing.

Position Details:

  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Start Dates: 4/6 or 4/20 with bi-weekly orientation
  • Shift: 12-hour day shifts, 6:30 AM 7:00 PM
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week (48 hours acceptable upon request; overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts)
  • Float Assignments: Deaconess Newburgh campus (8 miles) and potential for Henderson, KY (11 miles), with cross-campus float notice provided
  • Weekend/Holiday Coverage: Required three weekends every six weeks; every other holiday on rotation
  • No local candidates within a 40-mile radius considered

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver nursing care to a 41-bed Cardiac Renal Stepdown unit, managing telemetry patients with arrhythmias, heart failure, sepsis, and other critical care needs
  • Utilize advanced assessment and critical thinking for patient monitoring and management, including interpreting 12-lead EKGs and titrating drips (antiarrhythmics, heparin, etc.)
  • Perform specialized procedures such as PIV insertion, chest tube and indwelling drain management, continuous bladder irrigation, and nephrostomy tube care
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team maintaining a patient-nurse ratio of 1:4-5 during day shifts
  • Engage in precepting students and new hires as needed in this teaching hospital environment
  • Adhere to hospital policies, including scrubs with no competing logos and upholding attendance standards

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Active compact nursing license required
  • AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certification current upon application
  • Minimum 2 years experience strong in cardiac/telemetry nursing with at least one previous travel assignment
  • Trauma level II experience preferred
  • Recent EPIC electronic charting proficiency is required (orientation includes checkoff class)
  • Demonstrated skills in telemetry interpretation and critical care nursing interventions
  • Excellent critical thinking, resilience, and adaptability in a fast-paced clinical setting
