Job Title: Pharmacy Technician
Job Description
The pharmacy technician is responsible for accurately staging medications for dose preparation and filling new drug orders prior to the pharmacist's final check. This role involves filling medication carts and, if assigned, preparing injectable, chemotherapy, or other specialty medications following established procedures. Technicians use proper techniques to prepare sterile and non-sterile compounds for general and specialized areas as determined by departmental leadership.
Responsibilities
- Stage medications accurately for dose preparation.
- Fill new drug orders prior to pharmacist's final check.
- Fill medication carts prior to pharmacist's final check.
- Prepare injectable, chemotherapy, or other specialty medications if assigned.
- Use proper techniques to prepare sterile and non-sterile compounds.
- Deliver medications to patient care areas according to procedures and scheduled time frames.
- Perform routine inventory counts of medications.
- Check expiration dates and remove expired or recalled medications for disposal according to departmental policy.
Essential Skills
- Pharmacy Technician Certification
- Compounding
- Current registration with the District of Columbia Board of Pharmacy
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification through PTCB or National Healthcareer Association NHA
- At least 2 years of experience in pharmacy
- Customer service skills
- Knowledge of drug products
- Inpatient experience
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of at least 1 travel assignment
Work Environment
The work environment is within a nationally respected, not-for-profit community hospital located in Washington, DC. The schedule includes rotating day and evening shifts from Sunday to Saturday, with shifts ranging from 6:30am to 3pm, 7:30am to 4pm, 9am to 5:30pm, and 2:30pm to 11pm. The position requires working every third weekend or fewer.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Washington, DC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
