Principle Responsibilities

The Trim Carpenter fabricates, assembles, and finishes high-end architectural cast stone and precast trim components to exact specifications, ensuring precision, quality, and craftsmanship in every project.

Job Description

This position reports directly to the Plant Superintendent. The Trim Carpenter is responsible for the detailed finishing, fitting, and assembly of architectural products including mold components, trim details, and custom precast elements. The ideal candidate will have experience working with wood, resin, and architectural materials in a production or shop setting and a strong eye for detail.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain a strong focus on quality and craftsmanship in all aspects of fabrication and finishing.
  • Measure, cut, assemble, and finish wood and composite materials for molds, form liners, and decorative trim.
  • Fit and repair detailed architectural elements and assemblies used in the production of high-end castings.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and templates to ensure product accuracy.
  • Assemble, sand, and prep molds or architectural components for production and finishing.
  • Collaborate closely with mold makers, form carpenters, and finishing teams to achieve consistent dimensional accuracy.
  • Operate standard and specialized woodworking tools such as table saws, planers, routers, sanders, and pneumatic tools.
  • Maintain organized, clean, and safe work areas in accordance with company and OSHA standards.
  • Inspect finished work for alignment, surface quality, and precise fit before releasing to production.
  • Assist in repair and modification of existing molds, trim, or pattern components as required.
  • Report material shortages, defects, or quality issues promptly to supervision.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts within the trim/mold department.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Plant Superintendent

Required Skills

  • Strong carpentry background, including fine woodworking or finish carpentry experience.
  • Ability to read blueprints and detailed shop drawings accurately.
  • Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments.
  • Knowledge of wood species, resins, fillers, and bonding techniques.
  • Experience fabricating or repairing molds and forms a strong plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to maintain tight tolerances.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs frequently and 75 lbs occasionally.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Must be a self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Basic understanding of shop safety, PPE, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Ability to work efficiently under time constraints while maintaining craftsmanship standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3+ years of experience in trim carpentry, cabinetry, millwork, or pattern making preferred.
  • Background in architectural mold fabrication, precast, or construction trades strongly desired.
  • Technical or trade school training preferred but not required.
  • Must provide personal carpentry hand tools (company provides power tools and consumables).
