As a founding Physical Education Teacher, you will play a key role in shaping a highly engaging, standards-based PE program that integrates literacy and math while fostering students' physical well-being and social-emotional development.
We are seeking a knowledgeable and dynamic educator who can help us build a PE program that goes beyond traditional instructionone that encourages students to make connections between physical activity, academic content, and lifelong health habits.
Key Responsibilities Instruction & Program Development
- Design and implement a rigorous and engaging PE curriculum that aligns with TEKS standards and supports cross-curricular connections to reading, math, and science.
- Use data-driven instruction and formative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
- Incorporate experiential learning, real-world applications, and social-emotional learning into PE instruction.
- Establish routines, structures, and high expectations that promote student discipline, teamwork, and character development.
Cross-Curricular Integration
- Embed literacy and numeracy skills into physical education through movement-based learning, sports statistics, goal-setting, and strategy analysis.
- Foster students' understanding of health sciences, nutrition, and the impact of physical activity on academic performance.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support academic content through kinesthetic learning strategies.
Student Engagement & School Culture
- Lead high-energy, structured, and engaging physical education classes that cultivate a love for movement and fitness.
- Organize school-wide physical activities, wellness initiatives, and student competitions.
- Establish strong relationships with students and families to foster a positive and inclusive school culture.
Leadership & Founding Responsibilities
- Help build the foundation of UP Excellence Academys PE program, contributing to curriculum design and innovative instructional approaches.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to establish a PE program that aligns with the schools vision and instructional excellence.
- Support school-wide initiatives, events, and community engagement efforts.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field (required).
- Valid Texas teaching certification in Physical Education EC-12 (preferred).
- Experience in founding, building, or significantly developing a PE program (preferred).
- Strong understanding of instructional best practices, student engagement strategies, and cross-curricular integration.
- Ability to create rigorous and engaging PE lessons that support student growth both physically and academically.
