Job Description

Job DescriptionJob Title: Power Electronics Engineer
Job Description

This role focuses on diagnosing and resolving failures in power-side electronic products and PCBs throughout the production and supply chain lifecycle. You will investigate issues across design, manufacturing, and assembly, perform detailed testing and analysis on boards, and implement corrective actions such as redesigns and circuit rework to improve product reliability and reduce fallout in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate failures and fallouts in power electronics PCBs and assembled units to determine whether issues stem from design, manufacturing, or assembly processes.
  • Perform detailed board-level testing, evaluation, and analysis of power-side electronic products and PCBs.
  • Conduct thorough root cause analysis and root cause investigations (RCA) to identify underlying technical and process-related problems.
  • Develop and implement root cause corrective actions (RCCA), including redesigning boards, reworking circuits, and refining layouts to resolve identified issues.
  • Support production and supply chain activities by troubleshooting PCB designs at the board and assembly level.
  • Participate in board bring-up activities, ensuring new and existing designs function correctly under expected operating conditions.
  • Contribute to obsolescence management and component selection to maintain product reliability and continuity.
  • Perform worst case load analysis and DC load analysis to validate design robustness and performance.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and test teams to improve manufacturing processes and reduce recurring defects.
  • Support product lifecycle activities by helping to see multiple products through design, validation, production, and ongoing support.

Essential Skills

  • Experience designing power electronics at the board/PCB level and performing board bring-up.
  • Experience troubleshooting PCB designs at the board and PCB assembly level.
  • Experience seeing a minimum of three electronic products through their full lifecycle, from design through production and support.
  • Strong understanding of power electronics and high-power circuit behavior.
  • Hands-on experience with PCB layout and board layout concepts.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis, root cause investigation, and implement root cause corrective actions (RCCA).
  • Familiarity with worst case load analysis and DC load analysis for power electronics.
  • Knowledge of component selection practices and obsolescence management in electronic designs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in the aerospace or aviation industry.
  • Exposure to DO-160 testing and related environmental and performance standards.
  • Understanding of instrumentation issues and concerns in complex electronic systems.
  • Exposure to PCB design using Altium or similar electronic design tools.
  • Experience with circuit simulation tools such as PSPICE or comparable software.
  • Ability to use electrical instrumentation and test equipment effectively in a lab environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills for technical investigations.

Work Environment

This position is fully onsite in a large production warehouse environment. Engineers work upstairs in an office and cubicle-style area adjacent to an electronics lab, providing convenient access to test equipment and boards under evaluation. The team typically arrives between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., with flexibility to arrive and leave as preferred, provided a standard eight-hour workday is maintained. The role is part of a long-term contract structure with extensions commonly occurring every six months, and many team members remain for several years, with a strong likelihood of transitioning to a direct role over time.
