Substitute Tutors for Bergen, Passaic, and Hudson County
BASIC FUNCTION
The New Jersey Tutoring Corps Inc. provides high-dosage tutoring for K through Grade 8 students in math and literacy to close learning gaps. The New Jersey Tutoring Corps seeks to hire substitute tutors to work with scholars in partnership with our program districts. Substitute tutors will work with small groups of scholars, typically in groups of 1-4, in grades K-8 in building skills in math and literacy. This is a per diem position where you would be on call as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Engage with scholars in grades K-8 to build on existing mathematics and/or literacy skills;
- Complete daily records on scholar progress and site needs using the tools provided;
- Use data to drive instruction;
- Communicate regularly with your site coordinator to provide optimum learning- experiences for scholars;
- Participate in coaching from an instructional coach;
- Use an asset-based approach in working with scholars;
- Be responsive and work collaboratively with other tutors and site staff;
- Complete all training;
- Complete other duties as assigned.

EMPLOYER QUALIFICATIONS
- Substitute tutors must be able to:
- Arrive to work on time,
- Prepare lessons digitally,
- Take attendance digitally and sit with students for 4-8 hours a day,
- Clearly communicate instructions to students in grades K through 8.
- Professional skills include attention to detail, timely and proactive communication, and job preparedness;
- MUST have a Gmail email address or be willing to create a Gmail account; and experience with Google Suite applications: Google Doc, Sheets and Forms.
- Genuine desire to work with young children in a teaching capacity, building on foundational skills and closing learning gaps using formative and summative data and strong teaching pedagogy;
- Experience working with young children, preferably in a learning and teaching capacity;
- NJ Fingerprint Certificate and Background Clearance- The final offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and employment authorization verification;
- Must adhere to local health department and school district requirements for the site at which you are working, including any mask rules that must be followed if applicable.
- Reliable transportation to travel to sites.

COMPENSATION: Hours Vary; Non-certified substitute tutor $30 hr./certified substitute tutor (Teacher) $40 hr.; Semi-monthly Pay, and Paid Training.
