CHS System Nurse Policy Specialist

The CHS Policy Management Specialist will provide support to the Policy Management and Nursing Education Programs for Centralus Health. The Specialist assists operational leaders in enhancing their policies and standard operating procedures across the continuum of care. Supports the Nursing and Patient Care Services with policy management. Responsible for maintaining nursing/clinical polices. Must work independently with general guidance amongst a wide span of nursing leaders. Must be resourceful and provide guidance to operational leaders on ways to consolidate, align and ensure policies are updated. Responsible for outlining policies vs clinical practice standards of care.

The Specialist will report to the Nursing Informatics leader to ensure alignment of Epic implementation and optimization with policy management. The role assists the AVP of Clinical transformation in the implementation of evidence-based practices affecting nursing practice. Partners with nurse leadership, nursing staff, providers, families, and caregivers to review incidents that require a need for policy development in order to maintain safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable and patient-centered care.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Situational Leadership: Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
  • Project Management/Change Management: The Policy Specialist will be essential in assisting in the execution of policy implementation alongside nursing operational leaders and ensuring that policies are integrated effectively. The nurse policy specialist will ensure evidence based resources and facilitate policies through the appropriate committees and councils.
  • Regulatory/Accreditation: Identify, assess, and assist in the development and maintenance of policies to ensure compliance regulatory compliance readiness. The Specialist will be the liaison for all operational leaders to DOH visits or accreditation surveys and will ensure timely assessment, revisions and implementation of polices.
  • Record Keeping: Supports the Regulatory and Policy Management committees. Responsible for optimization of the policy platform and will be the expert support to nursing.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor and report on the progress of policy management, updates and implementation delays.
  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance and support to operational leaders on development of policies and nursing practice. The Specialist facilitates workgroups and is competent to leading interdependent teams in achieving consensus.
  • Training and Development: Identify training needs and opportunities for staff to enhance their understanding and skills associated with policies inclusive of retrieval.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current New York State RN license
  • 5 years or more of hospital experience as a Registered Nurse

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Working knowledge of CHS
  • Previous experience working with regulation, change management and policy management.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects. Sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally.

Location and Travel Requirements:

  • In-person/Hybrid
  • Required within the various CHS locations, including Cayuga Medical Associates Clinics.

Pay Range Disclosure:

  • $36.06 to $43.27 per hour
