Job Description
The Civil Engineer plays a key role in the planning, design, and permitting of civil engineering, land development, and infrastructure projects. You will lead and support site/civil engineering design for mixed-use developments, shopping centers, residential communities, higher education campuses, federal facilities, and other complex land development projects in a collaborative, continuous learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and modify engineering documents, including technical reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates, and design drawings using engineering and design software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Design and oversee site layout, grading, drainage, and infrastructure from concept through completion, ensuring constructible and cost-effective solutions.
- Develop erosion and sediment control plans that comply with applicable regulations and best practices.
- Perform stormwater management design, including hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, and prepare Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP).
- Integrate geotechnical and environmental engineering considerations into comprehensive land development designs.
- Support permitting efforts by preparing design documents and coordinating with internal teams for local, state, and federal land use approvals.
- Contribute to both small and large projects, adapting to varying scopes, schedules, and client requirements.
- Support technical and proposal writing efforts, including project descriptions, scopes of work, and supporting documentation.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, civil associates, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality project outcomes on schedule.
- Communicate effectively with clients, participate in client meetings, and represent the civil engineering team professionally.
- Perform other related duties as requested to support project and team success.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 3–6+ years of professional civil engineering experience focused on site/civil design and land development.
- Demonstrated experience with land development, including stormwater management, site grading, erosion and sediment control, and site planning.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) License is preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D for site and infrastructure design.
Work Environment
This role is based out of a modern office in the Arlington, VA or Washington, DC area, with the flexibility to work in a hybrid arrangement. The typical schedule includes 2–3 days per week in the office and 2–3 days working remotely, with the potential to move from three in-office days to two as you become established. You will work with industry-standard design tools, including AutoCAD and Civil 3D, and collaborate with colleagues across more than 40 offices on projects throughout the United States and internationally. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $110000.00/yr.
