Job Description

Job Description

Shape the future of insulation, thermal barrier, and fire-protection solutions used in aerospace, automotive, chemical, metals, power generation, and industrial markets. In this role, you’ll work hands-on with advanced composites, polymers, ceramics, and coatings to engineer high-performance products that perform under the most demanding conditions.

Material Science Engineer – What You’ll Do

  • Research, develop, and optimize advanced insulation and composite materials.
  • Conduct material characterization testing (thermal conductivity, tensile/tear, flammability, abrasion, chemical compatibility, acoustic performance).
  • Partner with R&D and manufacturing to scale lab formulations into full production.
  • Evaluate and implement new raw materials, coatings, and fire-retardant technologies.
  • Design and execute experiments, analyze data, and prepare reports validating product performance.
  • Support customer-specific projects for aerospace and industrial OEM applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve production challenges and drive cost-effective improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with FAA, NFPA, ISO, AS9100/IA9100, and ASTM standards.

Material Science Engineer – What You Bring

  • B.S. or M.S. in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in materials R&D, composites, or insulation manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience with textile-based composites, ceramic fibers, or refractory materials.
  • Proficiency in thermal/mechanical testing methods and data analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-engineers.

Preferred Background & Skills

  • Experience in aerospace, automotive, or industrial insulation/fireproofing.
  • Familiarity with advanced coating technologies and polymer formulations.
  • Knowledge of FEA/CFD thermal analysis tools.
  • Background with textile processing (weaving, automated sewing, CNC textile cutting, and coatings).

Material Science Engineer – The Perks

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance, plus HSA.
  • Paid time off and discretionary quarterly performance bonus.
  • Long-term disability insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match.
  • Paid Costco membership.
