We are looking for a dynamic Recreation Director to manage and enhance recreation operations within our community in Kapolei, Hawaii. This contract position involves overseeing aquatics, community events, facility management, and marketing initiatives while ensuring safety and compliance standards are met. Responsibilities:
• Lead and supervise a team of approximately 20 lifeguards and facility attendants, including recruitment, training, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions as needed.
• Coordinate and manage recreation facility operations, including scheduling and overseeing events such as private parties and community gatherings.
• Ensure pool operations comply with safety regulations and oversee water chemistry maintenance handled by contracted services.
• Develop and enforce operational procedures while providing coaching and performance feedback to staff.
• Organize monthly safety training sessions to maintain certifications and uphold Red Cross standards.
• Plan, implement, and promote recreation programs, classes, family activities, and events that cater to community interests.
• Oversee department budget by processing proposals, reviewing bids, tracking expenses, and managing supplies and equipment.
• Create and distribute marketing materials, including social media content, website updates, flyers, and advertisements.
• Act as a liaison between the community association and local groups to encourage engagement and collaboration.
• Collaborate with the Maintenance Director to ensure facilities meet all regulatory requirements and maintain security protocols.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in recreation management, hospitality, or a related field.
• Proven expertise in staff management, event coordination, and facility operations, with experience supervising part-time employees.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop creative solutions while exercising sound judgment.
• Exceptional communication skills to work effectively with diverse groups and foster community engagement.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with administrative tasks.
• Physical capability to lift and move items weighing up to 15 pounds occasionally.
• Flexibility to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and respond to after-hours facility issues.
• Familiarity with pool operations and safety standards is preferred.
