Virtus Healthcare Staffing seeks a committed and experienced Patient Safety Officer (RN) to join our partner, a leading medical facility in Downey, CA. This essential role supports organizational goals of providing safe, high-quality patient care by leading patient safety initiatives, conducting root cause analyses, and driving quality improvement across the hospital environment.
Position Summary
The Patient Safety Officer (RN) serves as the principal advocate for patient safety, ensuring compliance with clinical regulations and fostering a culture of safety. This role involves strategic oversight of hospital-wide safety programs, evaluation of adverse events, and active collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes. The role demands a strong foundation in clinical practices, performance improvement methodologies, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and monitor compliance with National Patient Safety Goals and safety-related metrics.

Conduct Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) for adverse events and near-misses.

Collaborate with nursing, clinical, and administrative teams to implement proactive patient safety strategies.

Act as a liaison with regulatory bodies (e.g., CDPH) for reporting and managing adverse events.

Oversee data analysis for quality improvement initiatives using Lean/Six Sigma methodologies.

Participate in interdisciplinary committees related to falls, medication safety, and infection prevention.

Support staff training and competency development in safety awareness and evidence-based practices.

Maintain current knowledge of CMS, The Joint Commission, and California health regulations.

Conduct chart reviews to identify risk patterns and assist in developing corrective action plans.

Report safety trends and recommendations to senior leadership and contribute to performance dashboards.
Qualifications
Required:

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.

Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related field.

Minimum 4 years of experience in a clinical setting.

Minimum 2 years in a quality, patient safety, or risk management role.

Strong knowledge of CDPH reporting criteria and national safety standards.

Proven ability to analyze clinical events, interpret data, and lead interdisciplinary reviews.

Proficiency with CQI tools, EMR systems (e.g., Epic), and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred:

Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Quality, or Public Health.

Certification in Patient Safety, Risk Management, or Quality Improvement (e.g., CPPS, CPHQ).

Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma or other process improvement tools.
