Founded in 1992, InServ is a full-service industrial contractor working in the life science, advanced manufacturing, and food and beverage industries. We specialize in four trades (mechanical, electrical and instrumentation, hygienic piping and HVAC), working from multiple locations across North Carolina, and for clients across the Southeast. Experience

Must have at least three years’ experience in the welding/fabrication trade, two of which must have been at the journeyman level. Must have demonstrated ability to perform the required trade skills as determined by InServ.


Typical Duties

Lays out, fits, and welds fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, stairs, mezzanines, furnace shells, and building and bridge parts, according to blueprints and knowledge of welding and metallurgy.

Selects equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.

Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together.

Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding.

Sets up equipment and welds parts using SMAW and GMAW welding process.

May assemble parts by bolting and riveting.

May repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torch, straightening press, and hand tools

Must be certified in SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW welding processes to be carbon and stainless steel.

Tool and Machinery Requirements and Usage

Must possess the minimum tools required for Mechanics under InServ Policy

Must have working knowledge in the use of the following hand and power tools.

All types of power drills, grinders, and saws

Shop fabrication equipment to include drill press, shear, press break, horizontal band saw and vertical mill.

Electric, propane, and diesel-powered welding machines

Plasma cutting machines.

All types of hand tools necessary for lifting, positioning, and aligning, such as dollies, skates, chain falls, come-alongs, etc.


Job Requirements

Must be able to work independently and stay on schedule once given proper direction.

Communicate and act on information using personal judgment or standards that can be measured or checked.

Perform work within established InServ quality and time limits or standards of accuracy.

Perform a variety of duties which may change often.

Use reason and logic to efficiently accomplish job tasks.

Perform arithmetical operations rapidly and accurately.

See detail in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes or shadings; and picture flat drawings as 3-dimensional objects.


Physical Requirements

Work is performed in and outside of process plants under a wide range of environmental conditions, with frequent deadlines and interruptions.

Physically, workers must be able to:

Work easily and skillfully with hands

Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolds.

See well (naturally or with correction) and distinguish colors.

Reach for, handle, and grasp wires and hand tools.

Bend, crouch, and work in small places; and lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
