Position Overview
The Air Traffic Control Specialist serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) supporting FAA air traffic management and modernization initiatives. This role provides operational and training expertise related to Traffic Flow Management (TBFM) and the Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS), supporting system integration, training development, operational analysis, and stakeholder coordination. The specialist works closely with FAA program offices, engineers, trainers, and operational personnel to ensure effective implementation and sustainment of air traffic control systems within the National Airspace System (NAS).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide air traffic control SME support for FAA programs involving TBFM and STARS.
- Support the development, delivery, and evaluation of training materials and training programs for air traffic management systems.
- Assist with operational assessments, system testing, and implementation activities related to TBFM/STARS.
- Provide input on procedures, operational concepts, and system enhancements to improve safety and efficiency.
- Participate in technical reviews, working groups, and coordination meetings with FAA stakeholders.
- Support documentation efforts, including training documentation, operational procedures, and lessons learned.
- Serve as a liaison between operational users and technical teams to ensure systems meet operational needs.
Required Qualifications
- Prior experience as an Air Traffic Control Specialist or equivalent operational ATC role.
- Demonstrated experience supporting or training on TBFM and STARS systems.
- Experience delivering or supporting training, including classroom, virtual, or on-the-job instruction.
- Strong understanding of air traffic control operations within the NAS.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex operational concepts clearly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting NextGen or air traffic modernization initiatives.
- Familiarity with FAA training methodologies and operational standards.
- Experience working in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary program environment.
