Job DescriptionPosition Summary:
Substitute teacher provides instruction, manages a safe and nurturing environment, and supports the academic and emotional development of students. Responsibilities include following lesson plans and schedules and completing duties the regular classroom teacher is assigned
Substitute teacher maintains a positive learning atmosphere, and ensures the safety and well- being of all students. The substitute must demonstrate flexibility, patience, empathy and student understanding. Must possess strong communication skills while maintaining classroom routines and encouraging positive student behavior.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid Iowa; teaching license, valid substitute teaching license or a valid substitute authorization
- Prefer a willingness to be available to in all levels across the district
- Previous successful substitute experience is preferred but not required
Job Description:
- Maintain the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom
- Maintain a climate that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
- Maintain an effective level of communication with staff and students
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
- Must be an innovative, passionate, and energetic individual
- Required to use the district time management system, TCP, for accepting substitute positions, clocking in and approving and verifying hours
- Must maintain an acceptable standard of professionalism while a sub in the district
- Use appropriate language and tone when speaking with students and staff
- Avoiding gossip or negative comments about the regular teacher or students
- Reports to the Building Principal
- Must adhere to substitute handbook, board policies and building expectations
Additional Requirements and Responsibilities:
- New Substitutes must complete building substitute job shadowing before accepting assignments
- Complete state or district required training assigned by HR
- Attend beginning of the year substitute teacher meeting
- District requests substitutes accepting assignments should not cancel unless there is an emergency, repeated cancellation may cause HR to remove sub from the district list
- Required to sub in the district a minimum of 5 times per month to stay active on the sub list
Pay Rate-$145 per day, licensed substitute teachers working a long-term assignment 10 days or more days in one assignment will also receive a daily increase in the longer-term position
Physical Requirements: Bending, carrying, climbing, driving, lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, walking.
