Reports To: Engineering Manager/Director
Position Summary
We are seeking a licensed Professional Electrical Engineer (P.E.) to join our dynamic MEP engineering team in Fort Worth, Texas. The successful candidate will lead electrical design and engineering efforts for a diverse portfolio of commercial, industrial, institutional, and mixed-use projects. This role excludes ground-up hospital projects but encompasses all other building types and MEP applications.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Engineering
- Lead electrical design for MEP projects including office buildings, retail centers, educational facilities, industrial complexes, residential developments, and renovation projects
- Develop electrical systems including power distribution, lighting design, fire alarm systems, telecommunications, and low-voltage systems
- Perform load calculations, short circuit studies, and coordination studies
- Create detailed electrical drawings, specifications, and construction documents using AutoCAD, Revit, and other industry-standard software
- Ensure all designs comply with NEC, local codes, NFPA standards, and applicable building codes
- Coordinate with mechanical and plumbing engineers to ensure integrated MEP design solutions
Project Management & Client Relations
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously from concept through construction administration
- Serve as primary electrical engineering contact for clients, contractors, and design team members
- Conduct site visits and field observations during construction phases
- Review contractor submittals and respond to RFIs in a timely manner
- Participate in design meetings, client presentations, and construction meetings
- Mentor junior engineers and support staff
Technical Leadership
- Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and code updates
- Provide technical expertise on complex electrical engineering challenges
- Review and stamp electrical drawings and calculations as the Engineer of Record
- Support business development efforts through technical proposal writing and client meetings
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the state of Texas (required)
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in electrical engineering with focus on commercial/institutional MEP projects
- Proficiency in electrical design software including AutoCAD, Revit MEP, SKM PowerTools, or similar load analysis software
- Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA codes, Texas building codes, and local utility requirements
- Experience with power distribution systems (480V, 208V, 120V), lighting design, fire alarm systems, and low-voltage systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong project management and organizational abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
- LEED AP certification
- Experience with healthcare facilities (non-hospital), data centers, or mission-critical facilities
- Knowledge of renewable energy systems and energy-efficient design practices
- Professional memberships (IEEE, ASHRAE, NECA, etc.)
- Experience with BIM coordination and 3D modeling
- Familiarity with commissioning processes
