We are looking for a skilled Financial Analyst to join our team in Muskegon, Michigan. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing financial data, preparing reports, and contributing to the effective management of public funds. The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring fiscal transparency while supporting strategic initiatives and municipal priorities.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct detailed analyses of financial data, including revenues, expenditures, and forecasts, to assist in strategic decision-making.
• Collaborate with city departments to develop, monitor, and report on annual budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
• Prepare comprehensive financial reports and dashboards for presentation to senior officials and stakeholders.
• Perform trend analyses to evaluate economic changes, spending patterns, and projected revenue streams.
• Work closely with department managers to assess budgetary requirements and identify opportunities for cost optimization.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations at the city, state, and federal levels.
• Review and reconcile financial accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies as needed.
• Develop financial models and projections to support long-term planning and city initiatives.
• Contribute to audit processes by providing necessary documentation and analytical support.
• Identify and address risks and opportunities in fiscal operations, recommending strategies for improvement.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field; advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial analysis, preferably within government or nonprofit sectors.
• Strong analytical skills with proficiency in interpreting and synthesizing complex financial data.
• Expertise in financial modeling, forecasting tools, and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
• Familiarity with government budgeting and public sector accounting standards, such as GASB regulations.
• Experience with financial management software tailored to government operations is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying financial insights to diverse audiences.
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
