Job DescriptionImagine Your First Week
It's a full-time, direct-hire start. You walk into a well-equipped toolroom, pull the latest print with precise GD&T callouts, and map your plan. You lay out stock, scribe datums, and decide whether the manual lathe, vertical mill, or surface grinder is the best first stop. You clamp up, dial indicators set, feeds and speeds locked in, then you machine clean, accurate features and verify each critical dimension with precision metrology. Before lunch, you support a Tool & Die Maker on a tight-tolerance assembly; later, you jump in to assist the Tool Grinders. By day's end, another part meets spec — and the next challenge is queued.
What You Will Do
- Set up and run manual equipment (lathes, vertical mills, grinders) to produce simple through moderately complex parts to print.
- Lay out stock: measure, mark, and scribe reference points; collaborate with Tool & Die Makers to plan dimensions, layout, and assembly sequences.
- Secure parts in vises/fixtures and perform accurate fitting and assembly using hand tools for mechanisms and subassemblies.
- Inspect work using precision instruments, confirming conformance to specifications.
- Pitch in for Tool Grinders and Tool & Die Makers as needed to keep work flowing.
- Bring and maintain required hand tools and measurement devices.
- Take on other assignments that arise in a dynamic toolroom.
What You Bring
- High school diploma or equivalent, plus two years of trade school in machining technologies and two years of related toolroom or manufacturing experience; or an equivalent blend of education and experience.
- Hands-on expertise reading prints with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Prior CNC programming experience.
