Medical Equipment Planner / Biomedical Engineer

Clinical Engineering | Healthcare Capital Projects

Position Summary

Our client, a leading academic health system, is seeking an experienced Medical Equipment Planner / Biomedical Engineer to support healthcare capital projects involving hospital renovations, facility expansions, equipment replacement initiatives, and implementation of medical technology across multiple healthcare facilities.

This position supports the Manager of Medical Technology Planning & Implementation and serves as a key liaison between Clinical Engineering, Design & Construction, Facilities, IT, Architects, Engineers, Contractors, Clinical Departments, and Equipment Vendors.

The successful candidate will coordinate medical equipment planning, equipment procurement, installation, commissioning, equipment replacement, lifecycle management, and project implementation activities associated with healthcare construction and renovation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate medical equipment planning activities supporting hospital renovations, expansions, and healthcare capital projects.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, Clinical Engineering, Facilities, IT, and clinical stakeholders to ensure proper integration of medical equipment into healthcare construction projects.
  • Review architectural, engineering, and MEP drawings to verify equipment locations, utility requirements, infrastructure needs, and installation readiness.
  • Participate in user meetings with physicians, nursing leadership, department managers, Clinical Engineering, Facilities, and project teams to identify equipment needs and operational workflows.
  • Evaluate existing medical equipment and recommend replacement, relocation, reuse, or retirement based on lifecycle, condition, and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate equipment procurement activities including vendor communication, quotation review, equipment selection support, purchasing coordination, delivery scheduling, and equipment tracking.
  • Develop and maintain equipment inventories, equipment schedules, project documentation, procurement logs, and installation tracking reports.
  • Coordinate medical equipment delivery, installation, commissioning, activation, testing, training, and operational readiness activities.
  • Support equipment implementation for Imaging, Operating Rooms, Emergency Departments, Critical Care, Laboratories, Patient Monitoring, and other clinical departments.
  • Coordinate with Clinical Engineering and IT teams to support medical device integration and technology deployment.
  • Monitor project schedules, equipment delivery milestones, installation activities, risks, budgets, and project documentation.
  • Provide project updates and communicate project status to leadership and project stakeholders.
  • Research emerging medical technologies and participate in equipment standardization and lifecycle planning initiatives.
  • Manage multiple healthcare technology projects while maintaining schedule, budget, and quality objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Healthcare Technology Management, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience supporting one or more of the following:
    • Medical Equipment Planning
    • Biomedical Engineering
    • Clinical Engineering
    • Medical Equipment Installation
    • Healthcare Technology Management
    • Medical Imaging Systems
    • Healthcare Capital Projects
  • Experience working in hospitals, healthcare systems, healthcare construction, medical device manufacturers, or biomedical service organizations.
  • Experience supporting medical equipment procurement, installation, commissioning, preventive maintenance, lifecycle management, or technology implementation.
  • Experience working with architects, engineers, contractors, facilities teams, biomedical departments, and clinical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment, healthcare operations, construction coordination, and hospital environments.
  • Strong project management, communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Microsoft Project or similar project management software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MRI, CT, Ultrasound, X-Ray, Laboratory Systems, Patient Monitoring, Operating Room Equipment, or other medical technologies.
  • Experience with healthcare capital construction or renovation projects.
  • Familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Visio, or BIM environments.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • CBET, CCE, or other Biomedical/Clinical Engineering certifications.
