PRINCIPAL
SUPERVISOR: Chief Administrative Officer
POSITION SUMMARY: The Building Principal serves as the Instructional Leader of the School. The Principal leads and manages the school program and is responsible for daily operations. The Principal must be an experienced educator, focused on classroom instruction and achievement, a collaborator at heart, and maintains a focus on continuous improvement to sustain a culture of excellence, academic achievement, and the healthy development of all students. The Principal is responsible for student discipline and maintaining an orderly educational environment in the building.
The principal will work directly with the Instructional Leadership Team to consistently improve the organizational systems and structures within the organization.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school
- Plans, organizes, and directs the implementation of school activities
- Keeps the School Leadership Team informed of the schools activities and any problems.
- Makes recommendations concerning the schools administration and instruction.
- Assists in the preparation of the school budget.
- Submits the schools budgetary requests and monitors expenditures of funds.
- Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the schools Leadership Team.
- Keeps supervisors informed of events and activities of an unusual nature.
- Interprets and enforces school policies and administrative regulations.
- Maintains active relationships with students and parents.
- Assists in the supervision of the schools educational program.
- Assists in the development, revisions, and evaluation of the curriculum.
- Assists the Director of Student Services in the supervision of the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development.
- Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary.
- Attends special events held to recognize student achievement and attends school-sponsored activities, and functions.
- Oversees the various local funds generated by student activities.
- Supervises the maintenance of accurate student progress and attendance records.
- Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and maintenance of the health of students.
- Responsible for School Level Federal Program Requirements
- Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession.
- Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the schools professional staff.
- Assists in the development of the master schedule and any special assignments.
- Observes and counsels staff members regarding their performance.
- Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the functioning of the school.
- Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.
- Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program.
- Asserts leadership in times of crisis in accordance with established Board policy.
- Participates in the supervision of afterschool and co-curricular programming.
- Cooperates with university officials regarding teacher training and preparation.
- Responds to written and oral requests for information.
- Assumes responsibility for all official school correspondence and news releases.
- Serves as a member of committees and attends meetings as directed by the School Leadership Team.
QUALIFICATIONS, CRITICAL SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Five years of teaching experience.
- Three years of experience as an assistant principal.
- PA Principals Certification.
- Possess excellent skills in dealing with people.
- Consistently utilize sound time management skills and the ability to prioritize.
- Consistently demonstrate sound problem-solving skills.
- Is self-motivated and displays initiative.
- Must consistently display excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must possess strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
- Must be able to move about the work area to access materials and equipment.
- Must be able to travel to and from job-related locations as necessary.
- Must be able to adjust to changes in environmental conditions.
- Must be able to access all assigned work areas and locations.
- Must be able to lift as required.
