Salary: $73,000 – $108,000 | Full-Time | Hybrid Work Schedule
A leading national law firm is seeking a Billing Manager to join their Chicago team. This role is ideal for a billing professional with proven leadership skills, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to drive billing operations forward. The Billing Manager will play a key role in mentoring the billing team, managing workflows, improving processes, and ensuring timely, accurate client invoicing.
Key Responsibilities:

Partner with the Senior Billing Manager to lead and support the billing team, assigning tasks, managing deadlines, and resolving issues to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Oversee team development through ongoing training, workload balancing, performance feedback, and resource planning.

Ensure all billing procedures align with firm policies, addressing compliance issues and escalating when necessary.

Manage month-end billing cycles, including the generation and review of prebills, and ensure timely invoice delivery.

Take hands-on responsibility for complex billing matters and support high-priority client accounts as needed.

Monitor team workloads to guarantee timely billing and maintain accurate records of client billing preferences, payment terms, and discount agreements.

Build strong partnerships between billing staff and attorneys, enabling team members to confidently manage their assigned billing portfolios.

Collaborate with the E-Billing Specialist to ensure all electronic invoices are processed in accordance with firm and client guidelines.

Act as the go-to contact for escalated billing questions from attorneys and administrative staff, ensuring prompt resolution.

Work closely with other finance teams to support cross-functional initiatives and firmwide financial goals.

Contribute to the creation and maintenance of training materials, resources, and process documentation.

Promote a positive, collaborative work culture that encourages team growth, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.

4–6 years of billing, accounting, or finance experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.

Prior experience managing or supervising billing teams is required.

Solid understanding of billing workflows, accounting principles, and financial operations.

Familiarity with Aderant Expert and BillBlast e-billing software is a plus.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills to interact effectively with attorneys, staff, and clients.

Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Proactive mindset with strong follow-through and an ownership mentality.
