Job Description
Company Identity
Mantel Technologies is a diversified defense technology company focused on delivering technical services and products to the National Security and dual use markets. Our Fort Collins headquarters focuses on R&D/product development and manufacturing, and is home to a diverse technical team.
Position Overview
Mantel Technologies seeks a Staff Chemist with a strong foundation in applied and analytical chemistry principles to join our Fort Collins team. The Staff Chemist will execute analytical chemistry tasks in support of quality and manufacturing initiatives, and will support research and development of new products and technologies. The Staff Chemist will be a member of both Mantel’s manufacturing and R&D teams.
This is a hands-on position that sits close to real programs and real constraints. You will work alongside scientists and engineers, contributing directly to experimental work, data generation and process development. While this is an early career role, it assumes curiosity, follow-through and comfort working in environments where the work matters and expectations are clear.
Location: Fort Collins, CO
Responsibilities:
-
Support the synthesis, preparation, and characterization of chemical and material systems used in defense applications
-
Perform analytical laboratory work in support of quality assurance for product release
-
Conduct laboratory experiments following established protocols while contributing to method refinement and documentation

Assist with materials testing, data collection, and analysis to support R&D and program deliverables
-
Maintain accurate lab notebooks, experimental records and technical documentation
-
Work closely with technical teams to support prototyping and system integration efforts
-
Follow laboratory safety, handling and quality procedures consistently
-
Contribute to continuous improvement of lab practices, workflows and documentation
What We’re Looking For:
-
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry

2 or more years of hands-on laboratory experience in an academic, industrial or government setting
-
Strong fundamental understanding of laboratory techniques and instrumentation used in analytical and synthetic chemistry; well-versed in best practices for safe chemical handling
-
Strong attention to detail; ability to balance adherence to experimental procedures with critical thinking to arrive at targeted outcomes
-
Comfort working as part of a small team where priorities can shift based on program needs
-
Ability to consistently document work and support knowledge management initiatives
-
Interest in applied work that supports real-world systems rather than purely academic research
Experience supporting Department of Defense programs, government research or regulated environments is a plus, but not required.
