Job Description

Corner Alliance is a dynamic, growing consulting firm that devotes itself to providing an enriching employee experience while working in meaningful ways to create results for the government. We are currently seeking a Windstorm Resilience SME with extensive expertise in windstorm impacts on buildings, infrastructure, and community resilience systems to join our team and fully embrace our commitment to deliver, grow and thrive.

This role is contingent upon award.

About the Role:

As a Windstorm Resilience SME, you will apply your academic and applied expertise to analyze the effects of windstorms on buildings, lifeline infrastructure, and community resilience systems. You will work with a federal engineering laboratory and technical experts to help design and facilitate a workshop that explores how communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from major windstorms.

The workshop will examine the community resiliency and recovery timeline from immediate return-to-function actions to longer-term rebuilding and restoration of social and economic systems, and ultimately to hazard mitigation strategies that strengthen future resilience. Based on the workshop discussions, you will help develop a report that identifies critical research needs, knowledge gaps, and actionable steps that can be achieved in the near term (within 2 years) and the longer term (2–5 years).

This work will directly inform strategies that improve the performance of buildings and infrastructure before, during, and after windstorms, reducing the impact on communities and helping shape national resilience priorities.

Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Research and analyze the impacts of windstorms on buildings, lifeline infrastructure, and community systems, including vulnerabilities in design, construction, and retrofitting.

  • Develop and present concise technical materials (e.g., white papers, briefing notes, reports) that frame emerging challenges and opportunities.

  • Identify, engage, and collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders from government, academia, industry, and community organizations.

  • Support the planning and facilitation of technical workshops to ensure productive discussions and effective outcomes.

  • Translate workshop discussions and stakeholder input into clear, actionable findings and recommendations.

  • Synthesize technical insights into reports and other deliverables that highlight research priorities and resilience strategies.

  • Contribute subject matter expertise to project teams and provide thought leadership on windstorm resilience.

Location:

You will work as part of a dynamic team remotely. Occasional travel will be required to host the workshop.

Required Experience/Skills:

  • Advanced degree (master's degree or equivalent experience) in civil/structural engineering, meteorology, architecture, or a related discipline with a specialization in windstorm impacts on the built environment.

  • 10+ years of academic research and/or applied practice in windstorm hazard analysis, building performance, or community resilience.

  • Demonstrated experience publishing or presenting on windstorm damage assessment, design standards, or resilience-focused research.

  • Strong technical writing skills, with experience developing white papers, reports, or peer-reviewed publications.

  • Proven ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and engage with diverse stakeholders

  • US citizenship and the ability to pass public trust clearance or suitability

Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • Previous experience supporting federal research initiatives or technical programs.

  • Experience facilitating or contributing to technical workshops or panels.

  • Familiarity with resilience-focused programs or initiatives in the built environment.
