The Pizza Technician is responsible for supporting product development, formulation, testing, and technical activities within the company’s pizza portfolio—including K-12 whole grain, retail private label, and foodservice pizza products. Reporting to the Senior Director of R&D, this role assists with bench work, plant trials, product evaluations, and documentation to ensure new pizza products meet quality, nutrition, cost, and operational feasibility standards. This individual will collaborate with Operations, Procurement, Quality Assurance, and the Innovation team to execute product development activities and support the company’s pizza growth strategy across Retail, K-12, QSR, and C-Store channels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation, formulation, and testing of new pizza products. - Support product evaluations including sensory testing, shelf-life studies, and quality checks. - Help conduct plant trials and production validations to ensure scalability and consistency. - Maintain accurate product documentation, formulations, and technical specifications. - Provide technical support to troubleshoot product and process issues. - Assist with reformulation projects to improve quality, reduce costs, or meet USDA/nutritional requirements. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Operations, Quality, Procurement, and Innovation.
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Culinary Science, or related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience accepted. - 1–3 years of experience in food product development, production, or technical support—pizza or frozen food experience strongly preferred. - Experience working with USDA nutritional requirements and/or K-12 foodservice a plus. - Familiarity with food production equipment and processes in bakery or pizza manufacturing environments.
