Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in residential and commercial buildings
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical drawings
- Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments or repairs
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems using appropriate testing devices
- Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems and components
- Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures using hand tools and power tools
- Ensure compliance with national and local electrical codes
- Collaborate with other construction professionals, such as HVAC technicians, plumbers, and general contractors
- Provide cost estimates for electrical projects
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used
- Train and mentor apprentice electricians
- Respond to emergency calls and provide after-hours support as needed
- Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program
- Valid journeyman electrician license
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a licensed electrician
- Proficiency in both residential and commercial electrical systems
- Thorough understanding of National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building codes
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints
- Proficiency in using various electrical testing equipment
- Knowledge of safety procedures and OSHA regulations
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in confined spaces
- Comfortable working at heights and on ladders
Preferred Qualifications
- Master electrician license
- Experience with low voltage systems (data, voice, security)
- Knowledge of energy-efficient lighting systems and renewable energy technologies
- Familiarity with building automation systems
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
