Job Description
It is the belief of the faculty of the Marsha Fuerst School of Nursing (MFSON) that each team member
should have defined responsibilities and that the MFSON accepts the responsibility of supporting its
team members in the achievement of both departmental and individual professional goals.
The Dean of Nursing provides leadership to nursing faculty, staff, and students. The Dean of Nursing
monitors trends in nursing education, participates in scholarly activities, ensures adherence to state and
federal regulations and maintains accreditation standards. The Dean collaborates with campus
leadership in handling issues such as admissions, performance, crisis management, policy
implementation, and programmatic evaluation. The Dean of Nursing reports directly to the MFSON
Director of Operations and indirectly to the Campus Director.
The Dean of Nursing must meet Arizona Board of Nursing requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Manages administrative functions of MFSON programs.
2. Participates in the management of campus operations and resources.
3. Advises students in nursing programs.
4. Collaborates with the Executive Dean of Nursing to ensure faculty and staff resources are
adequate to administer the nursing programs.
5. Participates in scholarly activities specific to the assigned nursing discipline.
6. Contributes to college strategic initiatives and participates in Success Educations Colleges longterm planning and policy setting.
7. Facilitates orientation and mentoring of faculty members.
8. Encourages faculty to continue professional development with Professional Development
resources available to them.
9. Provides ongoing mentorship and advisement in developing and implementing evaluation and
review systems for faculty, courses, and programs.
10. Ensures that faculty and staff work to implement program recruitment and retention plans.
11. Works with Campus Director and Corporate Finance Department to prepare and administer
operational and capital budgets for nursing department.
12. Participates in campus and program meetings including general faculty, curriculum, and
evaluation committees.
13. Manages course syllabi for compliance with college guidelines and external standards.
14. Oversees recruitment and enrollment of students.
15. Supervises coordination of student clinical placement.
16. Ensures program compliance with academic, regulatory, and professional accreditation
requirements.
17. Notifies the Arizona Board of Nursing of any substantial change in the program or its
administration.
18. Reports sentinel events, as defined in Arizona Board of Nursing regulations.
19. Adheres to all college policies and procedures.
20. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Current, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Arizona.
2. Master’s degree with a major in nursing from an accredited school required, Doctorate degree
in nursing or a related field preferred.
3. Five years of experience as a registered nurse.
4. Three years teaching experience in an approved and nationally accredited nursing program.
5. Experience in academic and/or professional administration.
