Job Title: Human Resources Specialist (Employee Leave)
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding leave of absence inquiries, providing guidance on eligibility, documentation requirements, timelines, and next steps.
- Coordinate and manage end‑to‑end employee leave processes, including FMLA, medical, parental, personal, and other statutory or company‑provided leaves, from initial request through return to work.
- Facilitate employee leave onboarding and offboarding activities, ensuring all required forms, approvals, and system updates are completed accurately and on time.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local leave regulations by tracking leave usage, maintaining documentation, and adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date employee leave records in UKG and other HR systems, ensuring data integrity and audit readiness.
- Partner closely with payroll to ensure accurate leave coding, pay adjustments, and benefit continuation during leave periods.
- Collaborate with managers, HR business partners, and benefits teams to coordinate leave coverage, return‑to‑work plans, and workplace accommodations as needed.
- Monitor leave cases, deadlines, and certifications to ensure timely follow‑ups and proactive issue resolution.
- Provide clear communication and ongoing support to employees throughout their leave, ensuring a positive and compliant employee experience.
- Assist with processing employee status changes related to leave, including extensions, intermittent leave tracking, and transitions back to active status.
- Support benefits‑related leave activities by directing employees to appropriate resources and ensuring completion of required benefits and disability documentation.
Essential Skills
- 2–4 years of experience in human resources, HR operations, or workforce services.
- Proven experience managing employee leave processes.
- Strong knowledge of HR administration, including employee records management and status changes.
- Experience providing administrative support in a human resources environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to work effectively with HR systems and databases to maintain accurate records.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to track multiple onboarding activities and deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to serve as a clear and supportive point of contact for new hires.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners such as talent acquisition, payroll, IT, and security.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Experience in healthcare HR is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of UKG or similar HR information systems is highly beneficial, especially during system implementation or transition.
- Experience supporting employee benefits processes is an advantage.
- Experience in human resource management, HR support, or HR administration within a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining data accuracy and compliance.
- Ability to adapt to new systems and processes and contribute to continuous improvement of HR operations.
Work Environment
This position operates fully onsite in an HR building located on a hospital campus, providing close proximity to HR colleagues and operational partners. Standard work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., offering a consistent daytime schedule. The role involves regular collaboration with talent acquisition, payroll, IT, and security teams, as well as frequent interaction with new hires. Work is primarily office-based, using HR systems such as UKG and Microsoft Office tools to manage onboarding tasks, maintain records, and communicate with stakeholders. The environment supports professional growth, and the role has the potential to become a permanent position based on performance.

This is a Contract position based out of Chesapeake, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $29.00/hr.
