Job Description

The Assistant Construction Manager will provide support to senior project leadership including the Construction Project Manager, Project Manager, Site Manager, and/or the EPC (Engineer, Procure, Construct) or Program Manager in overseeing day-to-day activities. Responsibilities will span safety, quality, scheduling, cost control, contracts, subcontractors, vendors, procurement, proposals, estimation, documentation, client handover, stakeholder communication, and other field-based operational duties involved in executing EPC, construction management, or program-based initiatives. This role will contribute to various projects across sectors such as aviation, commercial facilities, transmission and distribution, industrial/manufacturing, oil & gas, power generation, process industries, and water infrastructure.


Responsibilities:

  • Comply with company safety standards, policies, and training while working with the project team to monitor and support safety and health performance of personnel, contractors, and all involved parties.
  • Partner with project leaders to support client relationships and assist with proposal development and project coordination.
  • Contribute to internal and external risk assessments with the project team and legal as needed.
  • Assist with creating and implementing plans such as the Project Execution Plan, Safety & Health Plan, Quality Plan, Procurement Plan, Staffing Plan, and Subcontracting Plan.
  • Participate in negotiating and processing a range of contracts, purchase orders, and change orders.
  • Help develop and execute plans for site mobilization and demobilization in collaboration with field leadership.
  • Ensure necessary permits are obtained.
  • Aid in prequalification and registration processes for potential bidders.
  • Assist with drafting RFPs, defining scope, managing bids, and preparing contract documentation for subcontractor and vendor selection.
  • Support implementation of design documents, drawing releases, and design changes.
  • Handle downstream contract processes such as RFIs, submittals, change management, and claims tracking.
  • Support project controls including cost reporting, scheduling, WBS (work breakdown structures), setup, closeout, and tracking field progress.
  • Provide project updates including risks, costs, schedules, and forecasts for reporting purposes; prepare meeting materials and minutes.
  • Assist with invoicing across all contractual relationships.
  • Help manage the document control system and ensure compliance with documentation standards.
  • Confirm project-related insurance, licensing, and legal requirements are met.
  • Support project assessments related to safety, quality, financials, and performance.
  • Assist with material receipt, inventory, storage, and transport coordination.
  • Work closely with field staff to ensure subcontractors follow safety, quality, and scheduling expectations.
  • Assist in managing project turnover documentation and closeout processes.
  • Help enforce company policies and ensure all project activities adhere to procedures.
  • Support labor agreement development where applicable.
  • Aid in the onboarding of field personnel.
  • Analyze labor and equipment costs based on composite crew rates.
  • Work with field HR to properly staff projects and manage craft classifications and progression.
  • Maintain records related to craft workforce development and training.
  • Monitor unit rate performance and contribute to cost control and forecasting efforts.
  • Help manage construction equipment inventory to meet project requirements.
  • Carry out other duties as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all organizational policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field plus a minimum of 3 years of construction experience; equivalent experience may be accepted in place of a degree.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access) required.
  • Familiarity with document control, scheduling, cost tracking, and project management tools is preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, multitasking environment.
  • Preferred background includes experience on construction job sites or with program management across industries like aviation, commercial, energy, public sector, manufacturing, oil & gas, process, utilities, transportation, or water.
  • Basic knowledge of standard accounting practices.
  • Must meet company driving eligibility requirements.
