POSITION SUMMARY:
The Work Force Development Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the employment program. Provide services that promote long-term economic self-sufficiency for refugee participants through 1:1 coaching on aspects of navigating the employment landscape, including interview preparation, work performance, and developing new employment opportunities and employment upgrades.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) and Refugee Support Services (RSS) Case Managers with SDNP clients to become self-sufficient in job development related activities and skills.
- Complete employment / skills assessment for all newly referred clients.
Develop a clear job development strategy to assist clients in connecting with local employers who are hiring in the current market.
- Maintain relationships with existing employers and identify new employers who are willing to hire SDNP participants, which includes being informed and knowledgeable about key trends in the local market, marketing clients and our services to prospective employers, including but not limited to:

- Develop, locate and assess specific job opportunities that match participants skills, work experience, related training and interests.
- Screen and match SDNP participants with employment opportunities based on their skills, work experience and interests.
- Conduct reviews of existing employers on a regular basis to evaluate employer demand and/or hiring practices and determine how best to improve and/or leverage relationships to meet placement objectives.
- Demonstrate to employers the effectiveness and profitability of employing Asylees, Refugees, and parolee clients.
- Provide services to educate and prepare clients for employment by organizing, scheduling, executing and documenting job readiness workshops for clients participating in the SDNP program.
- Conduct individual assessment and group workshops to explain the job search process and available resources to find employment opportunities.
- Develop individual employment plans with each client.
- Conduct coaching sessions to assess progress and ensure compliance with employment plan.
- Document client participation and employment readiness and placement services.
- Assist clients with resume development and preparation for job interviews. Introducing clients to job fairs and interviews.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with employers and businesses to create employment opportunities that match programs job seekers employment needs.
- Promote the San Diego Newcomer Project program and its job seekers to employers, businesses, and the community.
- Assist in developing and organizing interviewing and hiring opportunities/job fairs for SDNP job seekers.
- Develop opportunities for clients who have little to no English skills or little to no formal work experience.
- Assure that SDNP policies and protocols pertaining to employment services on behalf of a diverse refugee client base are fully implemented.
- Required to carry a caseload to support the RCA/RSS Case Managers and employment program.
- Participate actively in department and/or agency meetings, as needed.
- Assist and report to Program Manager for authorization and approval of implementation of program development, supervision, and management as necessary and instructed.
- Assist CMs as necessary and/or instructed by the Program Manager.
- Comply with all policies and protocols of the program, department, and agency.
- Work collaboratively with all team members to understand and integrate workforce coordination regarding program and agency standards, scope of work, job duties, and other essential information.
- Assist in developing strategies to meet program employment objectives.
- Assist with employment onboarding and workplace orientation as needed by employers.
- Prepare and execute weekly work reports to the Program Manager.
- Participate in Monthly desk audits.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Two years of experience in sales, PR, outreach and community engagement, career services, job development, employment readiness or agency staffing preferred.
- Bachelors degree preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, and high level of cultural competence.
- Knowledge of/familiarity with or ability to quickly learn the employment opportunities that are available within the community/county to assist refugees achieve successful placement.
- Continually meet and exceed employment placement numbers required by the program (is there a #/% as outlined in grant to meet objectives?)
- Ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner.
- Ability to work in a collaborative manner with other team members, department and agency staff to maintain standards of excellence and to achieve program objectives.
- Ability to write succinct and clear reports.
- Commitment to the mission and values associated with the agency and the program, including social justice, respect for others, and early employment.
- Preferred, bilingual in English and one other language spoken by refugees: Haitian-Creole, Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, Swahili, etc.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid California Drivers License
- Safe driving record as demonstrated by a DMV report that shows no violations or restrictions
- Must successfully complete a DOJ live scan
- Tuberculin Skin Test
- CPR/First Aid Certification (desired)
