We’re hiring a Production Manager in Washington, DC!

The Production Manager will be responsible for managing commissary operations including supervising daily production, analyzing shop ordering trends, monitoring quality and food safety, ensuring consistency and safety in packing, and managing inventory. This role will assist the Commissary Managers in creating an efficient work environment and ensure all shop orders are fulfilled accurately and on time. You will be responsible for supporting high operational standards by continuing to hold yourself and your team members to the provided checklists, production lists, recipe specs, and other standardized tools. You will also aid in the creation of new tools to assist in the scalability of the company. This position reports to the Senior Director of Commissary Operations.

Your core responsibilities will be:

  • Supervise and train kitchen and commissary staff on proper food preparation techniques, sanitation practices, and equipment handling, maintaining high standards of food safety.
  • Oversee the inventory of ingredients supplies needed for daily operations, ensuring stock levels are maintained, and reorders are placed on time to prevent shortages.
  • Assist in overseeing food preparation according to recipes and quality standards, ensuring consistency and efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ensure all commissary areas, including prep stations, storage rooms, and equipment, meet cleanliness and food safety standards, adhering to health department and HACCP regulations.
  • Ensure that all ingredients and supplies are prepared and packaged properly for both in-store and off-site orders, ensuring accuracy, quality and timeliness in order completion.
  • Track food waste, manage portion control, and assist in controlling costs by identifying opportunities to reduce waste, spoilage, procedural breakdowns and inefficiencies.
  • Communicate with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery of ingredients and supplies, address any issues regarding quality or delivery.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of inventory, orders, and vendor transactions, providing regular reports to the Commissary Managers on stock levels, shop ordering trends and operational performance.

A day in the life of a Production Manager:

  • Work with the team to complete daily preparations and provide supervision and spot re-trainings.
  • Support and motivate team members to achieve and exceed goals
  • Receive, accept, and record daily deliveries of supplies from all vendors
  • Monitor receiving & storage procedures to ensure FIFO (first in first out), and product quality and integrity.
  • Manage inventory and variances, and waste reports at the Commissary
  • Work with commissary managers to ensure all changes/updates are appropriately communicated to all team members and products are always in stock.
  • Maintain clean storage, receiving and kitchen production areas to include daily cleaning tasks and weekly deep cleaning tasks.
  • Participate in menu rollouts, new product tastings, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Complete temperature logs, cooling logs, and production logs.
  • Uphold strict food safety, sanitation and hygiene standards throughout the Commissary.

You’ll be a great addition to the CYM team if you:

  • Have 1-2 years of management experience in a food manufacturing or production kitchen role, demonstrating knowledge of kitchen and baking operations
  • Exhibit the ability and desire to learn and improve in their position
  • Exhibit leadership skills and ability to motivate a diverse team in a fast-paced environment
  • Believe in a hands-on supervising style and be willing to lead by example
  • Are proficient written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Are proficient on computer software; can learn new software quickly
  • Have Food Safety Certification required (ServSafe Manager’s Certification)
  • Able to communicate in English and Spanish

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in varying environments (hot kitchen areas, cold preparation rooms, walk-ins, & freezer)
  • Able to squat, bend, stoop, push, pull and reach
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, and complete repetitive tasks
  • Ability to have flexibility in schedule & work holidays and weekends.
  • Ability to multi-task, problem solve and maintain composure in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to read, write and effectively communicate
