A non-profit organization is seeking a Human Resource Assistant who will provide administrative and operational support to the Human Resources Department, assist in maintaining employee records, coordinating recruitment and on-boarding, processing payroll and benefits information, and supporting day-to-day HR functions to ensure compliance and organizational efficiency. This is a part-time position working 32 hours each week; however, occasional extended hours during audits, new hire orientations, or major HR initiatives may be required.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with posting job openings on internal and external platforms and screen resumes and schedule interviews for hiring managers
- Conduct reference checks and assist in the background screening process, prepare new hire packets and onboarding documents, and coordinate orientation for new employees and ensure completion of all forms
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date personnel files, digital and physical and ensure HR records comply with federal and state labor laws
- Track employee certifications, training records, license renewals, and assist with HR audits and reporting requirements
- Support payroll processing by verifying time sheets, staff attendance, and help manage employee changes related to pay, position, or status
- Assist employees with benefits enrollment, questions, and changes and maintain confidentiality of all payroll and benefits data
- Serve as a first point of contact for employee inquiries, direct them to the appropriate HR staff, and support employee engagement activities, training sessions, and team events
- Distribute HR communications such as policy updates, reminders, or staff announcements and assist in maintaining a positive, inclusive, and faith-aligned workplace culture
- Enter and update employee data in HRIS, generate reports related to staffing, turnover, and compliance, and assist with data collection for grants, audits, and accreditation reviews
Job Qualifications:
- Must have Associate’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Bachelor’s Degree is preferred
- Must have a minimum 1 to 2 years prior Administrative or HR experience; Non-Profit experience is preferred but not required
- Must have basic knowledge of Employment Laws and HR best practice
- Must be proficient using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or HRIS and be familiar with HR software, payroll systems, and recordkeeping tools
- Must be able to maintain accurate and up-to-date personnel files, and ensure HR records comply with all federal and state labor laws
- Must have strong organizational and time management skills, as well as, excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be friendly, with a professional demeanor and a strong commitment to teamwork
- Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold the organization’s values of faith, integrity, and compassion in all interaction
